And the Year-End Sales Go On: Bill Blass Acquired
Bill Blass, one of America's most iconic designer labels is set to be acquired after a long search for a suitable buyer. NexCen Brands Inc., which describes itself as a 'brand acquisition company', announced today that they plan to purchase the fashion house for a $54.6 million combination of cash and stock. Robert W. D'Loren, NexCen's President and CEO, stated in a press release, "Bill Blass is a lifestyle brand that represents the best of timeless and classic American design. We could not think of a more suitable brand for our portfolio that we expect will be a fashion icon for years to come. This acquisition is an exciting opportunity for NexCen." Designer Michael Vollbracht is expected to stay with the company. After the label quickly went through two designers after Mr. Blass' death, Vollbracht is credited with steadying the course of the main collection by sticking close to its namesakes classic signature looks. While not particularly innovative, he has succeeded in repeatedly getting the brand on the red carpet in Hollywood, and a most recent coup, dressing Angelina Jolie on the latest cover of Vogue.
