Tibi Blossoms on Wooster Street

Last Tuesday, The Shophound was getting a little tired of runway shows from contemporary collections, but we knew we wanted to catch Tibi's show because they were opening a new store in SoHo, and it's always good to have background for our review. Designer Amy Smilovic's collection caught us by surprise, sending us out on a happy note. After all, what's not to like about "Charlie's Angels" and the Scissor Sisters at 9 AM? This week, we came to visit the new store with high expectations, and we were not disappointed. The wit we saw in Tibi's fashion show expressively showcases itself in the new Wooster Street store.

2.200 square feet is a lot for a young contemporary line to take for a first boutique, but Smilovic and architects Steve Blatz and Antonio Pio Saracino of archLAB studio have made the most of the space while avoiding the SoHo clichés of a minimalist loft space that just happens to be full of clothes. The store is defined by two large black and green floral murals by artist Ryan Good that wrap the ceiling and walls, creating a dramatic canopy for the collection,  complementing the appealing textured tweeds and bright tartans of this Fall's goods. Cannily chosen, we can easily how these murals can provide an equally lush setting for warm weather clothes.
Smilovic's personal touch will be seen in the playpen she plans to set up by the dressing rooms to ease the burdens on shopping moms. Toys will be provided by Wooster Street neighbor Giggle, and what better incentive to get back into shape than the lace and tweed bubble skirted frock in the window?
