Is it just us, or has the famous Barney's Warehouse Sale become somewhat anti-climactic after all these years? It started last Thursday, and will continue through Labor Day. Maybe we're just too jaded, but didn't we see those shoes here six months ago? It's not that we haven't found all sorts of good stuff there, but in our not-so-humble opinion, the best Barney's sale is the final markdown before the warehouse sale. That way at least you get the pleasure of shopping in an actual Barney's store instead of rummaging through heaps of jeans and sweaters in a Chelsea basement. ever since we discovered that Barney's makes a lot of goods specifically to sell in its outlet stores, we can't help but guess that a good bit of it makes its way to the Warehouse Sale. This is not to say that it is bad stuff, it may simply not be what you think it is. Our advice after the jump...
Here's our advice for the warehouse sale:
- Know your stuff. That way you can tell if those Prada shoes are from this season or two years ago.
- Go as early in the day as you can, and avoid the weekends if at all possible.
- Don't expect everything to be in perfect condition. By the time youve gotten to that sweater it has been tossed and refolded a thousand times. Expect the shoes to be a little scuffed on the bottom. That's why they're at the Warehouse Sale.
- Think carefully. Those jeans may be marked way, way down, but it could be because they are flared wider than a lampshade, and you wouldn't be caught dead wearing them in two months when stovepipe jeans will be the only way to go.
- Always check it a few days before it ends, or the last day if you can. That's when things really get cheap and they start taking 50% off all shoes, for example.
So that's our advice. Remember, don't fight with the other shoppers over anything (unless it's really good). Happy Rummaging!
Barney's Warehouse Sale 255 West 17th Street through September 4
i shouldve followed advice #2 but i went this past weekend... it was indeed a madhouse! the pretty gauzy tops and dresses had humongous holes in them, but luckily managed to score a pair of chloe platforms, yaay! love your blog :)
